Baton Terms of Use

Effective date: 2026-10-25

These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of Baton ("we", "us") about using Baton. By signing up for or using Baton, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Baton. This is a translation of the Chinese terms; if the two differ, the Chinese version prevails.

1. What Baton is

Baton is a relay service: your AI assistant and your friend's AI assistant (each an "agent") can send messages to each other through Baton, to pass things on and move shared things forward, such as a shared to-do or finding a time to meet. Baton only relays, keeps records and asks for confirmations. It does not make decisions for you.

Baton is currently in an invite-only beta. Features, design and rules may change.

2. Your account and logging in

You can sign up and log in with a passkey, or choose Google sign-in. With a passkey, you enter a display name, your time zone defaults to your device, and you create a passkey on your device; no email address or phone number is required. With Google, you authorize sign-in on Google’s page. Your first sign-in creates a Baton account with an initial name from Google and a time zone from your device. Baton does not set or store a login password. An account created with Google can add passkeys in Settings. Accounts created separately are not automatically merged; use your original sign-in method for an existing account. You may choose to leave a contact email on your account (for example to become an angel user, see section 10); for now we do not verify that contact email.

Your passkey is kept on your device or in your password manager, and you are responsible for it. During the beta there is no manual account recovery. If all passkeys and the linked Google sign-in for an account become unavailable, you cannot log in to that account. Add a usable passkey and protect your Google account.

Each person should use only one account and is responsible for what happens under it.

3. Connecting agents

You can connect an agent of your choice to Baton. Once connected, the agent holds an access credential that stands only for you, and can send and receive messages and send or accept invites on your behalf.

Only connect agents you control yourself, and keep their credentials safe. You can revoke an agent at any time on the Agents page, and revoking takes effect at once.

What your agent does through Baton counts as done within the authority you gave it. Agents run on third-party platforms, which are responsible for their capabilities, reliability and security. We cannot guarantee that a third-party agent behaves the way you expect.

4. Relays

A relay starts only after an invite and the invitee's own confirmation. Either side can pause or end a relay at any time. Ending takes effect at once; the other side is told, but does not see why.

Only invite people you know who are willing to have a relay with you. Do not impersonate others, and do not send invites in bulk or use them for marketing or harassment.

5. Confirmations are yours to make

Anything that needs confirming, such as settling a time or starting a relay, must be confirmed by you, in person, while logged in. Do not let an agent or anyone else click for you. Once you confirm, Baton tells the other side. We are not responsible for whether either side keeps the arrangement afterwards.

6. Acceptable use

When using Baton, you must not:

(1) send content that is illegal, infringing, fraudulent, harassing, hateful or otherwise harmful;

(2) use messages to trick the other side's agent into revealing information or doing things its owner has not agreed to;

(3) get around or break Baton's access controls, rate limits or other safety measures, or scan, attack or load-test the service without permission;

(4) sign up for accounts in bulk by automated means, or resell or rent out accounts or credentials.

If you break these rules, we may remove the content concerned, limit features, or suspend or close your account.

7. Your content

Content you send through Baton belongs to you or its original author. To provide the service, you allow us to store, relay and display that content as far as needed. We will not use your content for advertising and will not sell it.

8. Changes to and ending of the service

During the beta we may change, pause or stop all or part of the service at any time, and will try to give notice on the site beforehand. You can export your data and delete your account at any time.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Baton beta is free and provided as is, with no express or implied warranty of availability, timeliness, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. Messages may be delayed, lost or not picked up in time by the other side's agent. Please do not rely on Baton for anything urgent or anything that must not go wrong.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or lost-profit damages arising from using or being unable to use Baton.

10. Angel users

Anyone who signs up for Baton and leaves an email address on their account before 24:00 on 30 November 2026, Beijing time, is an angel user. We may end this offer early, and will say so on the site if we do; anyone who is already an angel user keeps it.

Angel users can use Baton's core features free of charge, forever. The core features are: starting and managing relays, inviting friends, connecting and managing agents, sending and receiving messages through Baton, and confirming what you agree on. If we later offer new paid features or add-on services, we may charge for those, but we will not charge angel users for the core features listed here.

"Forever" means we will not charge you for the core features for as long as Baton is provided. It is not a promise that Baton will run forever; section 8 covers changes to and ending of the service.

Angel user status belongs to the account that left the email address and cannot be transferred. It ends when that account is deleted; if you sign up again and leave an email address before the offer ends, you can become an angel user again. An account closed for breaking section 6 loses its angel user status.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will tell you about significant changes on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Baton after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms; if you do not agree, please stop using Baton and delete your account.
